Must-have ingredients in a facial cream

We have all the secrets about Centella Asiatica, Aloe Vera and Hydrolyzed Collagen.

When you hear “anti-wrinkle” or “anti-aging” you tend to think of a mature skin, full of wrinkles. We forget that you do not have to be like a Shar Pei (a beautiful dog, by the way), to start taking care of your skin. In fact, the sooner you start pampering your skin, the better.

It is not necessary that at age 20 you apply an anti-wrinkle cream, but you should start to take care of your skin. Above all, it is important to begin to set some beauty routines for the future. The act of cleaning your face, hydrating and protecting yourself from the sun should be the same as brushing your teeth.

The skin is the most extensive organ we have and has more memory than an elephant. You could say that it is quite spiteful: it remembers everything and returns it multiplied. What today is a sunburn, years later can be a stain, a wrinkle or something worse. In addition, the sun damage is cumulative and for now we have no reset button to have the child’s skin again.

If we want a tree to be big and strong, we will have to fertilize the land and water it regularly, right?

Not all creams work or all the ingredients are the same. Then we have made a selection of ingredients that cannot miss in your cream.

Centella asiática

Sounds exotic, right? It is. Centella Asiatica, from the Apiaceae family, has been used in Asian medicine for hundreds of years.

It is also known as Gotu Kola or Tiger Grass. It is said that when the tigers are badly wounded they rub against these bushes to relieve themselves. So tigers already knew their healing power!

It has been used, and is used today, as an ingredient in repairing creams for scars, wounds, burns, irritated skin and even psoriasis.

Its value lies in the active principles of the aerial part of the plant, the saponinic triterphenes such as the madecasoside, asiaticoside, the madecassic acid and the Asian acid. All of them stimulate the fibroblasts to increase the synthesis of collagen. They also act on the inflammation that always exists in a healing process.

Although there is no scar, healthy skin is not enough to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. Centella Asiatica not only has beneficial properties on the skin, it has also proven its anti-ulcer action, improves some vascular pathologies, acts on the nervous system and has immunostimulating properties.

Aloe vera

The succulent plant Aloe Barbadensis, better known as Aloe Vera has been used since ancient times for the beneficial effects it has on health. Aloe derives from the Arabic word “alloeh” which means bright bitter substance and “vera” in Latin means true. If you put all their meanings together, it is a bit strange, but the concept is understood. Chinese ancestral culture and the Egyptians already used the Aloe plant to heal burns, wounds and reduce fever.

The gel inside each leaf of Aloe Vera is rich in water (99%) and active ingredients such as glucomannan, amino acids, lipids, sterols and vitamins.

The list of the benefits of Aloe Vera is quite extensive but we mentioned the most important. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-neoplasic effect, promotes healing and repair of the skin.

In addition, it has antimicrobial properties against bacteria, fungi and viruses. Its antioxidant effect defends the organism from oxidative stress and premature aging.

Hydrolyzed collagen

Time does not forgive anyone, and from the 30’s our body begins to decrease the production of collagen.

Collagen is the major protein of the skin, to which it gives firmness and cohesion. It is also found in joints, bones and muscles. The collagen molecule is made up of several amino acids, among which proline, glycine and lysine stand out. Collagen fibers are found in the dermis and are produced by fibroblasts.

There are numerous types of collagen but the most numerous in the skin are type I, II, III and IV. Collagen is a very large protein needs to be hydrolyzed and converted into smaller molecules in order to be absorved.

As you can see, any of these three ingredients or the synergy of the three together are clear winners to hydrate and repair your skin in depth.
